NAKAGAWA,Masaharu

Member of The House of Representatives, The National Diet of Japan
(Mie prefecture / elected 5 times)

Interested in politics since he was a student.
Since he wanted the best education in democratic politics, he determined to study in American university.
After graduating, he decided to work for Japan Foundation, from his perspective that international mutual understanding comes from cultural exchange.
He was first elected as a member of Mie prefectural assembly in 1983.
From then, he was elected 3 times consecutively for 12 years with the most votes.
He joined the Japan New Party which was founded by former prime minster Morihiro Hosokawa, and resolved to challenge on governmental affairs.
He was first elected as the House of Representatives member in 1996.
As the next finance minister of the Democratic Party, he exerted himself on creating the manifesto for the nearest election.
He aims to take “Everyone is a leading role” politics in practice, which encourages citizens to decide close matters within the area in which they live.
